The Department of Genetics at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Genetics, beginning August 1, 2026. The ideal candidate will establish an active and independent research program that includes the development or use of genetic models of human disease that can be used for drug discovery. An ideal candidate will have a research program with an emphasis in areas related to aging, epigenetics, chromosome biology, gene regulatory networks, systems biology, and/or drug resistance mechanisms.
The Department of Genetics offers a collegial work environment that spans a broad range of research, from developmental, biomedical, and molecular genetics to evolutionary biology and ecology. Departmental strengths include functional genomics, chromatin biology, and evolutionary genetics. Laboratory and office space is located in a building shared by the Department of Genetics, the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and the Institute of Bioinformatics. There are excellent opportunities for collaborations among faculty as well as access to the Georgia Genomics and Bioinformatics Core, the Biomedical Microscopy Core, and the Georgia Advanced Computing Resource Center.
The University of Georgia resides in the vibrant city of Athens in the northern Piedmont region of Georgia.
