Dr. Jacob Berchuck, a translational researcher and medical oncologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS), is seeking a highly motivated, exceptional research technician. Dr. Berchuck???s research focuses on improving outcomes for cancer patients through early cancer detection and obtaining novel insights into cancer genetics and epigenetics. This position will be in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Freedman, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, with whom Dr. Berchuck has worked for several years. Dr. Freedman is a world-renowned researcher in cancer epigenetics and genetics.

The successful candidate will conduct experiments involving human cancer biospecimens, extracting cell-free DNA (cfDNA), genomic DNA, and RNA, performing cell-free methylated DNA immunoprecipitation (cfMeDIP), chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), preparing libraries for next-generation sequencing, and implementing other molecular biology techniques. The individual will also assist in daily laboratory operations and organization. There will be supervision and mentoring as well as the potential to independently lead projects. In addition, the research assistant will collaborate with a diverse array of community members at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, including molecular biologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, epidemiologists, genomics specialists, and computational scientists among others to advance and enrich her/his educational experience. There is potential for contributions to be published and presented in several forums.

• Perform cfMeDIP-seq experiments on patient cfDNA specimens.
• Perform ChIP-seq experiments on patient tumor specimens.
• ??Perform other molecular biology experiments such as extracting cfDNA, genomic DNA, and RNA, running Western blots, performing cell culture, and others.
• Attend and present at lab meetings and contribute to publications of impactful research.
• Lab organization and ordering of supplies / reagents.
• Work together with other lab members and extended scientific team.

• Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings, including grant preparation and presentations, and look for opportunities to co-author publications. May be expected to participate in formal and information presentations of results to staff.??
• Participate in grant application process and manuscript preparation as required.
• May be responsible for monitoring laboratory budgets.

• Bachelor???s Degree or equivalent in life sciences or any quantitative discipline is required.
• Prior research experience in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or genetics is strongly preferred.
• Passion and enthusiasm about scientific discovery is required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
• We are looking for candidates who have at least two years of availability.
• Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
