Position Summary

This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.

Our laboratories study cancer and kidney diseases. We combine bioinformatics and experimental approaches to advance precision medicine. We combine in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro methods to study the pathogenic mechanisms in a multidisciplinary manner. Ongoing projects in our laboratories involve kidney diseases, cancer proteogenomics, progenitor cells in injury/repair, molecular circuitry regulating tumorigenesis, and functional genomic studies based on new discoveries from next generation sequencing. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to perform experiments in research projects to address questions that are both fundamental in biology and highly relevant in the clinic.

Job responsibilities and duties involve assisting with molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and histology/immunohistology assays; maintaining murine models, processing samples derived from laboratory mice and human specimens; assisting with general laboratory maintenance, including ordering, regulatory compliance, equipment maintenance, and other day to day operations; maintaining complete written and electronic records/reports in an organized manner. 

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
• Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
• Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
• Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
• Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
• Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.  The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience in molecular biology, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and using transgenic mice.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and to communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
• Ability to generate, analyze, and organize data and reports.
• Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.  

Required Qualifications

Bachelorâ™s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.

Salary Range

$15.61 - $24.39 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
