Position Summary The Chappell lab ( https://www.chappell-lab.org/ ) is seeking a proactive, collaborative postdoctoral researcher in the development and application of RNA-based technologies for synthetic biology. Specifically, our lab is interested in the development of new RNA-based sensors, gene regulators, and memory devices for engineering microbiomes and human cells. Applications of our technologies include human health, environmental synthetic biology, and creating synthetic cells. We encourage candidates that have recent training in synthetic biology and/or biomolecular engineering, are passionate about these research areas, and are ready to lead projects in this space. Documents, analyzes, and maintains research data in engineering of RNA technologies for synthetic biology applications
Utilizes modern molecular biology techniques related to molecular cloning, gene expression assays, and next-generation sequencing
Presents data analyses and results at research group meetings and conferences; publishes research findings
Assists with proposal development to obtain research funding
Mentors, oversees, and/or trains junior research team members
Supports project management and collaboration across institutions
Designs and implements research protocols; adapts new procedures, methods, or instrumentation relative to research procedures
Performs all other duties as assigned
Ph.D. in molecular biology, synthetic biology, biomolecular/chemical/biological engineering, or related field
Knowledge of and skill with the principles and techniques of synthetic biology
Proficiency in techniques of molecular biology, microbiology, and/or computational biology
Able to write scholarly papers based on ongoing research for publication in peer-reviewed journals
Able to work in a collaborative environment
Able to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision and direction
