Jr. Specialist: Bioinformatics (Krogan lab, UCSF)

The Krogan Lab (http://kroganlab.ucsf.edu) is a highly collaborative laboratory focusing on the molecular networks underpinning infectious disease, carcinogenesis, and psychiatric disorders. The candidate will perform analysis of large datasets generated in-house as well as publicly available datasets across a range of projects. The candidate will also have the opportunity to develop novel pipelines for analyzing and interpreting proteomics data, and integrating it with other types of data.

Required qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, computer sciences, computational biology, statistics or similar.
• Experience with bioinformatics analysis using Python coding language
• Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with students, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and faculty.
• Candidates must meet all qualifications by the time of hire.
• Candidate’s CV and/or cover letter must state basic qualifications (or if pending) upon submission.

Preferred qualifications:
• Computer programming skills in R, python or similar language.
• Specific skills in traditional bioinformatics techniques including: gene set enrichment analysis, clustering, network analysis, database organization/construction, and sequence analysis.
• Basic understanding of cellular biology
• Experience with machine learning
