								<description>Toronto, Ontario, Canada,  Effective October 1, 2026, the Division of Haematology/Oncology, Blood and Marrow Transplant/Cellular Therapy (BMT/CT) Section, at the Hospital for Sick Children, (SickKids), Department of Paediatrics, 555 University Avenue. Toronto, ON which is an academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children; a fully affiliated hospital within the University of Toronto is recruiting a permanent full-time Paediatric Haematology/Oncologist.&#xa0; 
 The Blood and Marrow Transplant/Cellular Therapy program at SickKids is one of the  largest and most active paediatric transplant and cellular therapy programs in North America .  We are FACT-accredited with a  17-bed dedicated inpatient unit ,  performing approximately 120-130   transplants and cellular therapy procedures annually   for children referred from across Ontario and the Atlantic provinces. Our clinical scope includes transplantation and cell-based therapies for the treatment of malignancies, immunodeficiencies, bone marrow failure syndromes, metabolic disorders, autoimmune diseases and haemoglobinopathies. 
 The section currently comprises of  six faculty members  with a robust portfolio of  gene therapy, cell therapy, and immune effector cell clinical trials , as well as active translational and basic research programs. The program is developing  on-site cell- and gene therapy manufacturing capabilities  and benefits from close collaboration with SickKids&#39; internationally recognized programs in immunology, haemoglobinopathy, metabolic disease, and oncology. 
 With rapidly expanding indications for cellular therapies including CAR-T, gene therapy, and gene editing, the successful candidate will not only contribute to our clinical excellence but help shape the strategic direction of the program over the next decade. 
 SickKids is home to Canada&#39;s largest paediatric research institute, with more than 2,000 researchers, trainees, and staff. The BMT/CT section is embedded within this vibrant research community, with extensive opportunities for collaboration across the SickKids Research Institute, the University of Toronto, and affiliated networks. Significant philanthropic support is dedicated to advancing the program&#39;s clinical and research mission.

 The BMT/CT section operates a well-established clinical fellowship program that attracts trainees from Canada and around the world. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the education of the next generation of transplant and cellular therapy physicians, with a commitment to global capacity-building in the field. 
 The successful candidate will join a dynamic interprofessional care team.&#xa0; The successful candidate will provide care for patients in the BMT/CT section of the Division in the inpatient and ambulatory settings with responsibilities which include procedures and participation in out-of-hours clinical coverage. The successful candidate is expected to spend most of their time devoted to clinical service and to making important contributions to the clinical, research and teaching missions of the Division. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. Candidates at all career stages are encouraged to apply. 
 All candidates must be able to function proficiency in English, hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent thereto and be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.&#xa0; 
 The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary will be ($275,543-$350,000) per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  PRIMARY FUNCTION 
 Genetics is a discipline within the field of Laboratory Medicine that deals with the analysis and interpretation of changes to DNA and RNA in blood and tissues. The test results are useful for detecting and diagnosing disease states, as well as determining prognosis and guiding therapy in both the somatic and germline settings. 
 &#xa0; 
 Clinical Laboratory Geneticists work collaboratively with other members of the Clinical Laboratories, with faculty and staff from the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine, and other healthcare professionals.&#xa0; They are expected to build effective relationships with members of the health care team and to provide prompt and expert consultative services. Some of the regular activities include: providing case interpretation, scientific/technical oversight of genetic laboratory activities, monitoring compliance with Accreditation Canada Diagnostics requirements, participating in new test development and implementation, and participating in departmental, hospital and/or external committees. 
 &#xa0; 
 The successful candidate will be board-certified or board-eligible as a Fellow of either the Canadian College of Medical Genetics (CCMG) or international equivalent in the areas of molecular and/or cytogenetics. The ideal candidate will have experience and be knowledgeable in constitutional genetics, somatic genetics, molecular and cytogenomic testing.

 The successful candidate will demonstrate effective communication and leadership skills, and an ability to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment. With a faculty appointment in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen&#8217;s University, there will be ample opportunities to be actively engaged in teaching and research.&#xa0;

 RESPONSIBILITIES &#38; DUTIES INCLUDE : 
 Knowledge expert: 
 
 Data interpretation for a wide variety of molecular and cytogenetic assays. 
 Clinical interpretation of results and consultation with clinicians, as needed. 
 Hospital wide call, when on service, to provide clinical relevance of the test data and to assist in clinical management of patients. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 Quality and Utilization Improvement: 
 
 Quality initiatives to improve patient care and laboratory performance, based on scientific and medical best practices. 
 Development and maintenance of laboratory standard operating procedures. 
 Genetic testing stewardship, including test menu. 
 Clinical oversight of the Genetics laboratory. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 Teaching and Education: 
 
 Teaching Residents and Fellows (i.e., from Pathology, Genetics, Pediatrics Hematology programs), Medical Laboratory Technologists,&#xa0; and students from Michener Institute or other educational organization. 
 Rounds, seminars, conferences, intramurally and extramurally. 
 Continuing education: maintenance of certification, participation at regular rounds, journal clubs and scientific meetings. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 Research and Development: 
 
 Oversight of assay development. 
 Validation and verification of established and new assays. 
 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS : 
 
 Possess a Ph.D. from an accredited university. 
 All of the above PLUS: be eligible to hold an academic appointment at a Canadian university at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. 
 1-3 years of related experience. 
 Be a fellow, board-certified or board-eligible, of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (FCCMG), or international equivalent. 
 Proven ability to attend work regularly. 
 Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.</description>
