The Quinodoz Lab Is seeking a Research Technologist who can join a new, dynamic, collaborative, interdisciplinary research group to tackle questions related to RNA biology, nuclear structure, and gene regulation in health and disease. The Research Technologistperforms laboratory tasks and completes routine assays following common or established protocols and procedures. The main responsibilities will be ensuring smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory (including managing supplies and reagents), molecular biology experiments (such as PCR, cloning), genomics tool development (e.g., RNA-seq, DNA-seq), and work with mammalian cell lines (e.g., cell culture, CRISPR, and genetics). For interested candidates, there will be opportunities to pursue an independent research project, and a chance to make an important contribution to basic biomedical research.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Perform clinical and/or research laboratory experiments by following common protocols independently or with instructions.
Use basic science knowledge to learn techniques and methods of the lab.
Gain problem-solving skills through progressive training, understanding of the research, and experience.
Run lab tests and complete measurements.
Identify and resolve common problems involved in routine assays.
Increase skill base and knowledge of lab research and relevant assays.
Train users in standard equipment operation and routine lab techniques and procedures.
Set-up experiments based on defined standards.
Collect project data.
Prepare, test, and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
Perform related laboratory maintenance, monitor inventory of supplies, clean equipment.
Responsible for some routine operational activities in the laboratory such as ordering supplies and materials, reviewing inventory, preventative maintenance of equipment.
Communicate with students, vendors, post-doctoral fellows, faculty members, in an appropriate manner requiring good oral and written communication.
Perform research laboratory experiments by following established protocols independently or with instructions, which will include molecular cloning, genomics (RNA-seq, DNA-seq), and/or cell biology (microscopy, immunofluorescence, RNA-FISH).
Other duties as assigned
Technical Skills & Expected Level of Proficiency
Data Collection and Measurement - Awareness
Experimental Preparation - Awareness
Laboratory Equipment Maintenance - Awareness
Laboratory Techniques and Assays - Awareness
Laboratory Troubleshooting and Technical Problem Solving - Awareness
Oral and Written Communications - Awareness
The core technical skills listed are most essential; additional technical skills may be required based on specific division or department needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 1 year of academic research experience is preferred.
Hands-on laboratory experience with molecular cloning, genomics, and/or mammalian cell culture will be highly regarded.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience.
