The Department of Genetics is seeking a clinical molecular geneticist to join its faculty at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with a primary appointment in Genetics. The candidate will serve as Director of Cancer Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics and will be responsible for leading a team to strengthen the cancer genetic and genomic diagnostic capacity, develop new tests, and deliver excellent customer service in collaboration with the Yale Cancer Center.
The applicant should hold a PhD, MD or both, and be board certified/eligible in Clinical Molecular Genetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). Being board certified/eligible in Molecular Genetic Pathology and ABMGG is not required but would be a strength. Strong preference is given to candidates with clinical knowledge and experience in cancer genetics and genomics tests and experience with management of genome-scale sequence data. We welcome recent graduates or those who will be board-eligible by June 2022. More senior applicants will be considered as well.
About the role:
Responsibilities for this position include:
Perform variant review for clinical cancer genetic and genomic tests based on ACMG/AMP guidelines
Formulate and edit comprehensive clinical genetics test reports
Participate in communication and consultation of test results to health care providers
Collaborate with the Yale Cancer Center (YCC) to provide genetic testing services to YCC patients
Assist in supervising and directing the operations of the DNA Diagnostics Laboratory including quality control and laboratory regulatory compliance
Aid in the curation of laboratory genomics databases and statistical data
Participate in cancer genetics and genomics related research and development
Participate in Laboratory Genomics and Genetics Fellowship Training Program
Participate in educational activities of the clinical genetics residency program, medical students, and others
Continuous improvement of customer service
Members of the Department of Genetics conduct basic, clinical and translational research using genetics and genomics of model organisms (yeast, fruit fly, worm, zebrafish, mouse) and humans to understand fundamental mechanisms of biology and disease. Areas of active investigation include genetic and epigenetic regulation of development and disease, molecular genetics, stem cells and other dynamic cellular systems, regulation of gene expression, computational biology and human genomics. The Department of Genetics also provides clinical care in Clinical Genetics in the Yale New Haven Health System. Medical genetics services include outpatient and inpatient consultation and care for general genetics and metabolic genetics. Our clinical laboratories provide tests for Cytogenetics, DNA diagnostics, and biochemical diagnostics. The Department sponsors a Clinical Genomics and Genetics Residency and Laboratory Genetics and Genomics programs leading to certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
