Job Summary:
Conducts tests and procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records observations and measurements and collects and compiles data in a research lab; requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques.
The Andersen lab is looking for a talented and motivated individual to fill the role of a research technician I. The position is ideal for candidates looking for more experience before heading to graduate school. We use molecular, quantitative, and evolutionary genetics to answer questions about how genetic differences affect phenotype.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices and conducts standard and repetitive experiments and completes basic trouble-shooting techniques.
- Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.
- Records test results and may maintain databases.
- Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.
- Maintains inventory of reagents, C.elegans and lab supplies
- Will prepare strains, set up high-throughput assays of toxin responses, and organize/upload raw data for analysis
- Isolate nematodes from natural substrates
- PCR genotyping and Sanger sequencing of nematode strains
- Cryopreservation of samples
- Isolation of DNA and RNA for high-throughput sequencing
- Be able to work independently and be part of a dynamic research team and participate in research projects, laboratory meetings, journal clubs, and seminars.
- Completes other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses is required.
