We are searching for a lab manager and biologist for our basic and translational leukemia research lab (PI: Zohar Sachs, Division of H.O.T, Department of Medicine, Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota). The goal of our multidisciplinary lab is to identify therapeutic targets in the deadliest and most treatment-resistant types of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We study AML using genetically engineered mouse models and primary human AML samples. Our lab focuses on unraveling the signaling and gene expression patterns at the single-cell level using whole transcriptome single-cell RNA sequencing and high dimensional mass cytometry (CyTOF, Helios). The ideal candidate is a motivated scientist with training in the fields of cancer biology, hematology, or immunology. Required experience: advanced flow cytometry, basic molecular biology, mouse work. Preferred experience: mass cytometry, bioinformatics analysis, and an interest in using large-scale datasets to address biological questions.
Responsibilities 54% Design and conduct experiments, supervise junior scientist and undergraduate students. Monitor status of lab reagents and ordering. Laboratory management, inventory, ordering, organization, and other miscellaneous duties as assigned. 30% Analyze and interpret data, prepare figures for manuscripts and presentations, maintain expertise in the relevant literature. Communicate and meet with collaborators. Maintain pristine and accurate documentation. 15% Assist with writing manuscripts, progress reports, abstracts, assist with grant-writing, meet with PI. 1% Present data at lab meetings (optional: present at local and international conferences)

Required Qualifications: 1. BS/BA in biological sciences and 2 years of related experience or a combination of education and experience to equal 6 years. 2. At least 1 year experience working with mice. 3. Expertise in multi parameter flow cytometry 4. Proficiency in basic biology laboratory skills including expertise in cell culture. 5. Proficiency in following detailed protocols 6. Excellent organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Quantitative PCR including primer design, experimental set-up, and data analysis. 2. Basic genetic modification techniques 3. Expertise in leukemia biology, hematology, immunology, or cancer biology 4. Experience with mass cytometry (CyTOF, Helios) sample processing and instrument operation. 5. Expertise in using cytobank and analysis of mass cytometry data. 6. Expertise in preparation of samples for bulk and single cell RNA sequencing. 7. Experience with FACS-based sorting, and magnet-based cell fractionation. 8. Organ and tissue harvesting from mice, including isolation of cells from bone marrow and spleen. 9. Molecular biology techniques including high quality RNA and DNA isolation and processing for next generation sequencing applications. 10. Protein isolation and immunoblotting. 11. Primary culture and/or analysis of stem cells 12. Immunostaining and immunohistochemistry 13. Imaging techniques including using fluroscence microscopy.
