Salary: The budgeted salary range for this position is $43,888 to $65,000. Position Summary
The Fan lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking highly energetic applicants for a full-time Research Specialist position. We are currently have multiple projects that combine unique model organisms, spatial omics technology development, and computational modeling to uncover RNA-driven mechanisms that enable whole-body regeneration and to identify new epigenetic targets for therapeutic intervention. This role will support the delivery of key research projects, contributing to the design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of experiments. This role also involves optimizing and developing new experimental protocols, maintaining animals, alongside general laboratory management tasks
Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and other researchers to design and develop research projects.
Conduct in vivo and in vitro experiments, including data collection, evaluation and interpretation.
Test, optimize and implement both new and existing methods, procedures and techniques.
Develop, write and maintain comprehensive laboratory protocols and records of experimental results.
Maintain animal colonies.
Assist in the preparation and implementation of general laboratory maintenance protocols (e.g. safety, training, waste management, animal care).
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, preferably in biochemistry, stem cell biology, bioinformatics or an equivalent discipline Master's degree in science preferred.
A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
Past experience in biochemical assays (Western blotting, EMSA), protein expression and purification, high-throughput sequencing (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq), fluorescence imaging, germ cell development, or multiomics data analysis is an advantage.
Ability to coordinate and organize effectively are the most critical requirements of the position.
Self-motivation and strong communication skills are a must.
Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
Proficient in specific lab research techniques.
