The St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ASHP-accredited Clinical Pharmacogenomics Residency is a one-year program that provides advanced training in clinical pharmacogenomics, an introduction to translational research, and organized experiences for the management of sophisticated pharmacy service programs.  The clinical pharmacogenomics resident will be actively involved in providing clinical pharmacogenomics services to patients and will participate in various activities that promote the clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics at St. Jude and beyond.  Required and elective clinical rotations provide the resident training in applied therapeutics, nutrition support and pediatric pharmacotherapy.  The resident will be engaged in activities related to interpreting pharmacogenomic test results, writing translation algorithms to convert lab test results into meaningful diplotype interpretations, providing pharmacogenomic consults for patients that include recommendations for drug therapy, conducting a clinical trial, evaluating pharmacogenomics literature, and implementing clinical informatics based on pharmacogenomic results.  Experience in teaching is acquired through providing lectures, in-services, journal club presentations, and precepting pharmacy students. 

The pharmacogenomics resident will take the lead on writing a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.  The resident will write clinical decision support rules to flag high-risk drugs to high-risk diplotypes and will assist with the development of educational tools for patients, pharmacists, and other clinicians. 

Requirements include a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, successful completion of a PGY1 residency, and license (or eligibility) to practice pharmacy in Tennessee.  A background in biological sciences or basic human genetics is recommended.
