The selected candidate will be expected to perform a variety of routine and specialized duties, in field and laboratory settings, that will require considerable knowledge of the principles and theories of applied and basic sciences, laboratory techniques, and methods for obtaining and analyzing research data in the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS) at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), Texas.
Responsibilities:
Lead research in poultry nutrition, molecular biology, nutritional genomics, microbiology and food safety, feed additives, and microbiome at Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences.
Assist the principal investigator in ongoing research projects in poultry nutrition work related to performance, digestibility, nutritional genomics, gut histo-morphology, microbiome, immunology, meat quality and egg quality.
Design, perform, and/or oversee experiments, collecting and analyzing data using statistical methods, interpreting data and IACUC approval acquisition.
Present results at scientific and non-scientific meetings and developing peer-reviewed manuscripts.Â
Assist in writing research reports, manuscripts, and grants, present results at scientific meetings.
Participate in extension and outreach activities as needed by the program. Work in collaboration with other researchers in CARC.
Assist undergrad and graduate students and research technicians.
Support achieving the universityâ™s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Animal Science with a focus in Poultry Science, Poultry Nutrition, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Nutritional genomics, or related fields. Ideal candidate should have knowledge of molecular biology techniques, such as RNA/DNA/protein extraction, gene expression, microbiome analysis, and real-time PCR.
One (1) - Three (3) years of research experience in Poultry Science.
Preference will be given to individuals with experience with handling research animals such as chickens, broiler breeds and layers.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge on diet formulation and conducting experiments on broilers and layers is required.
Strong interest in conducting research and working in a group.
Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with other lab members as a team.
Preferred Qualifications:Â
Knowledge of and demonstrated skills in poultry management, applicable analysis skills and a solid record of strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to multi-task successfully;
Preparedness to work independently as well as cooperatively with other lab members as a team.
Preference will be given to the candidate who has considerable experience in data analysis, laboratory analytical techniques, field research design and project implementations, analytical and statistical skills.
Preference will be given to candidate with a record of peer-reviewed publications and experience preparing grant proposals.
Strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams and skills.
Able to work with and train undergraduate and graduate students.
