Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Science [Biology] - Dr. Dan Ohtan Wang
New York University
Application
Details
Posted: 15-Apr-25
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
Internal Number: 166088
The RNA Modifications, Intellect, and NeuroDegeneration (RNA-MIND) Laboratory under the Biology Program, Division of Science, of New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a research associate/postdoctoral associate to work on projects focused on understanding RNA modification signaling pathways in the nervous system and their function in synaptic, neuronal and behavioral plasticity.
The central goal of the laboratory is to study the neural mechanisms involving dynamic RNA modifications during cognitive development and decline. To achieve this, research projects rely on the use of a combination of techniques such as rodent behavioral analysis, biochemical, molecular and cell biology, in vivo and in vitro fluorescence imaging, and next-generation sequencing. Position duties would include initiating and designing their own research projects, leading the generation and analysis of experimental data, presenting project progress in meetings, training junior researchers and students, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment that includes collaboration with fellow post-doctoral associates, senior and junior scientists, and undergraduate students. They will also benefit from the support of established Core Bioinformatics and Sequencing Platforms and High-Performance Computing facilities.
Applicants for the Research Associate position must have at least a bachelor?s degree in biology with several years of experience in neuroscience, or other related fields from an accredited institution of higher learning, or have more than five years of experience post-receipt of a doctoral degree. Meanwhile, applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellow position must have a PhD, MD, DDS, or equivalent advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, with no more than five years post-receipt of this degree. Individuals who are specifically qualified for the postdoctoral appointment will benefit from professional and scholarly mentorship from the principal investigator, in preparation for career independence, with a minimum employment term of two years.
A strong background in systems neuroscience is required for either position. An ideal candidate should also have prior experience in rodent behavior, stereotactic virus injections, calcium-imaging, and two-photon microscopy, as well as a good record of research productivity. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and transportation allowances. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, all applicants must submit a resume, cover letter, statement of past research activities, transcript and contact information for at least two references, all in pdf format. If you have any questions, please email ohtan.wang@nyu.edu (Dan Ohtan Wang, laboratory PI).
