Who we are:
Since 2008, The Weill Institute has thrived as an interdisciplinary hub of life science research at Cornell. Our faculty perform cutting-edge cell biological research, from basic molecular mechanisms to human diseases. We bring together faculty, students, and postdocs from outstanding programs across campus in research areas that might not otherwise engage in crosstalk. From Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Computational Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology & Genetics, to Plant Biology; we seek to provide an environment that encourages cutting-edge research and the transfer of ideas and technology.
What you will do:
Working under general supervision of Professor Yu and guidance from the lab manager, and with latitude for independent judgement, provide technical support for projects within his active research laboratory. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- performing moderately complex molecular and biochemical techniques;
- operation of lab equipment;
- laboratory and equipment maintenance;
- lab supply procurement and inventory;
- other support activities including sterilization of glassware, media and solution preparation, and removal of hazardous and biological waste.
This is a 1-year term position, renewable based on continued funding, ongoing need and satisfactory performance.
What you will need:
Associate's Degree and at least 1 year of related experience. Working knowledge of molecular biology methodologies and basic lab techniques. Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities, and exercise good reasoning skills and independent judgment within the framework of developed protocols. Proficiency required in standard computer software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, and Excel) and basic Adobe programs. Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities, situations and demands. Ability to provide exceptional service while working in a team-oriented and multi-cultural environment.
What other experience is preferred (but not required):
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in biological sciences, chemistry, or related science field with two or more years of related lab experience.
