Job DescriptionThe Boston College William F. Connell School of Nursinginvites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with interest ininfectious diseases and health equity. The fellow will join Dr. NadiaAbuelezam's multidisciplinary team to develop cutting-edge strategies toincorporate structural causes (like racism) into mathematical models ofinfluenza, COVID, and other infectious diseases. Dr. Abuelezam is an infectiousdisease epidemiologist with a strong publication record in both mathematicalmodeling and health inequities for minoritized populations.
The full-time position offers up to three years ofpostdoctoral training with compensation commensurate with experience, benefitsand funds to travel to professional conferences and meetings. The postdoctoralresearch fellow will develop their own research goals, establish a strongpublication record, and receive mentorship and guidance from Dr. Abuelezam.Individuals with the following characteristics will be competitive for theposition: strong motivation and commitment to a career in infectious diseaseepidemiology, strong quantitative computational skills including experiencewith large datasets, excellent communication and presentation skills, and anability to conduct research in a self-directed and collaborative manner.Candidates must also be interested in mentoring undergraduate research fellows.Women and applications from under-represented backgrounds are stronglyencouraged to apply.
RequirementsRequirements:
-PhD, ScD, or equivalent degree in Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Engineering, or related analytical discipline.
-Comprehensive understanding of statistical concepts and methodologies
-Experience in processing and analyzing large datasets
-Strong data visualization skills
-Proficiency in at least one statistical programming language (e.g. SAS, R)
-Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills in English
-Strong commitment to dismantling structural racism and health equity
Desired (but not required):
-Experience in mathematical modeling of high dimensional systems and individual based modeling
-Proficiency in at least one other programming language (e.g. python, Matlab, C/C++)
