Position:
The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry beginning August 2024.
Qualifications:
PhD in chemistry or a closely related field is required. Candidates with teaching and research interests in all areas of chemistry will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates interested in teaching introductory level chemistry courses while also mentoring undergraduates in independent research projects. Salary shall be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
The candidate will primarily teach undergraduate lecture and lab courses in introductory chemistry but may also teach upper-division courses in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will be assigned an instructional workload equivalent to eight (8) courses per academic year; workload credit for mentoring undergraduates in research is possible.
Department of Chemistry:
The Department of Chemistry is ACS accredited, with 26 full-time faculty members, including 18 tenured or tenure-track faculty engaged in research involving undergraduates and graduate students. The department enrolls over 200 undergraduates majoring in chemistry, forensic chemistry and chemistry secondary education, as well as 40 MS students in the Forensic Science Graduate Program. The department supports interdisciplinary programs in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics (MBBB) and environmental science. Additional collaborative opportunities may be available with science faculty in other departments, including Biological Sciences, Computer & Information Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences.
