Position Summary

Our research broadly deals with understanding the neuropathology of Alzheimer Disease (AD). AD is characterized by the deposition of protein aggregates that interfere with neuronal synapsis, causing inflammation and eventual cell death. Research along with bioinformatics is identifying novel potential players in the pathology of AD. These omics-driven studies are complimented by performing functional analysis to confirm the actual role of these in-silico discoveries and determine their exact role in the pathogenesis of AD. For this purpose, the Cruchaga lab is seeking a reliable person with tissue culture and biochemistry experience to assist scientists and work alongside other technicians to understand the role of newly identified omics in the AD pathway. Tissue culture and basic biochemistry experience are pre-requisites for this position.

Assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
• Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
• Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
• Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
• Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
• Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Tissue culture and basic biochemistry experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
• Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
• Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.

Salary Range

$16.92 - $26.44 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
