The research associate will conduct research to determine the cryo-electron microscopic structure of a protein-DNA complex formed in the process of replication initiation using Escherichia coli as a model system (https://bmb.natsci.msu.edu/faculty/jon-m-kaguni/current-research/). The individual will also obtain training in nucleic acid enzymology and molecular genetics.
Detailed description of work/duties: The research associate will perform experiments to assemble and analyze a protein-DNA complex using established biochemical assays. The individual will also learn about isolating the complex by several methods, and visualizing the complex by transmission electron microscopy and cryo-electron microscopy. The postdoc is expected to participate in seminars, journal clubs, weekly lab meetings, and manuscript preparation.
