The Department of Environmental Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH) seeks outstanding candidates for positions at the rank of assistant or associate professor in Environmental Health. This is a tenure-ladder position, with the academic rank to be determined in accordance with the successful candidate's experience and productivity.

Environmental health addresses the relationship between harmful environmental exposures and public health. To improve public health our departmental mission is to advance the discovery, transmission, and application of new knowledge, thereby fostering policies and programs that promote well-being and healthy, safe communities. We are dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work. We deal with infectious, chemical, biological, radiation and particulate environmental exposures borne in air, water, soil, food, or consumer products.

These tenure track positions offer outstanding scholarly and scientific resources in a collegial, collaborative, and diverse atmosphere. A joint appointment with another Harvard school and/or another HSPH department is also possible. These positions offer the opportunity to mentor exceptional students and post-doctoral trainees with strong interests in environmental health effects. The successful candidates will be expected to develop an independent research program, to participate in teaching graduate-level courses, and mentor students and post-doctoral trainees from diverse backgrounds and participate in teaching graduate-level courses that promote awareness of the social determinants as they pertain to environmental health, cultural sensitivity, and environmental justice.

The successful candidates will join our diverse group of elite investigators. Candidates from underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply, including Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA+, and others.

Candidates for these positions will hold a PhD, MD, ScD, or equivalent doctoral degree, will have a demonstrated record of research accomplishments, and must express a strong interest in applying their discipline to environmental health. 

We seek scientists with expertise in one or more of the following fields. Biological sciences: molecular and integrative biology, lung biology, physiology, cell biology, immunology, genetics, epigenetics, bioengineering, systems biology, computational biology, infectious disease, toxicology. Exposure sciences: climate change, environmental justice, environmental exposures, radiation exposure, risk assessment, built environment, engineering, aerosol physics. Population sciences: environmental epidemiology, reproductive outcomes, cancer, neurological outcomes, cardiometabolic health, children's health, geographic information, occupational health, exposomics, data science.

Application: For full consideration, applicants should submit: 1) a current curriculum vitae; 2) a letter of intent that a) describes why they would be a good candidate, b) their interest in the position, 3) a research statement describing their previous experience and future research goals, 4) a statement concerning their teaching and mentoring experience and future plans in these areas, and 5) a statement detailing their experience in and commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in their scholarship, teaching and mentoring activities; and 6) contact information for four references. Additional references will be requested of candidates that are being considered for associate professor rank. Review of applications will begin and continue until the position is filled.
