This is an exciting research opportunity in the lab of Dr. Steven Paul and Dr. Anil Cashikar to understand how cholesterol metabolism influences the pathogenic mechanism of Alzheimerâ™s disease. We use a variety of methods in the lab, such as mouse models, primary cultures of microglia and astrocytes, immunology techniques, cell biology, gene expression, etc. A strong motivation to do scientific research to answer complex problems is essential for this position.
This position independently performs complex research studies, experiments and assays.
Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Performs complex analysis/projects according to research protocols, explaining methods and procedures to other technicians.
Coordinates mouse handling, small animal procedures, tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
Provides for data entry and current data files on research projects. Monitors data to ensure consistent quality. Performs preliminary statistical analysis of data.
Assists in the training and development of technicians, acting as a group leader.
Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
Working Conditions
This position works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
Required Qualifications
Masterâ™s degree with two years of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling seven years.

Salary Range
$18.40 - $31.31 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
