A fully funded Postdoctoral Fellowship is available in the Stitziel Laboratory within the Division of Cardiology and Department of Medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, USA. We seek a highly motivated, creative, independent, and enthusiastic scientist to continue our translational studies of the human genetic basis of cardiovascular disease.
Our lab recently discovered that the novel extracellular matrix protein SVEP1 causally promotes cardiometabolic disease in humans and mice (Jung et al, Science Translational Medicine 2021) likely by interacting with the orphan receptor PEAR1 (Elenbaas et al, Nature Communications 2023). We seek a Postdoctoral Fellow with experience in animal models of cardiovascular disease and/or protein biochemistry to continue our work in functionally characterizing the impact of this novel interaction on vascular biology and disease pathogenesis. Our research program provides a highly collaborative and supportive training environment to develop and foster independent careers. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to use novel multi-omics approaches to fully characterize molecular mechanisms with direct relevance to human disease. Responsibilities will include experimental design, execution, data analysis, and manuscript preparation, with multiple opportunities for presentations at local, national, and international scientific meetings.
Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in biological sciences or related fields.
Experience in animal models of cardiovascular disease or protein biochemistry.
Strong communication skills.
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.
