The department of plastic surgery is seeking a full-time Research Specialist in the Plastic Surgery Regenerative Medicine Research Laboratory. The primary research focus in the lab includes (1) discovery of mechanisms underlying regeneration and homeostasis in skin, (2) development of nanomaterials to support soft tissue regeneration, and (3) development of cell and gene therapy for lipodystrophy.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Perform and assist with a variety of bench work. Be responsible for carrying out molecular and biochemical assays for different projects, including but not limited to PCR, western blot, flow cytometry, histology and immunostaining (sample prep, sectioning, staining, microscopy and image analysis). Extensive prior experience is sought.
Maintain and manage different murine and rodent colonies including animal arrangement and care, breeding and genotyping.
Act as a resource for laboratory techniques for junior researchers and students in the lab and train new group members.
Identify and incorporate new technologies and protocols into the lab.
Efficiently and thoroughly manage assigned projects and tasks to ensure the quality and integrity of research.
Review literature and identify resources (experts, collaborators, companies) to help select best options for scientific strategies, experimental design and implementation, and research development and to troubleshoot any scientific and technical problems.
Contribute original thoughts, hypotheses, data analysis and results interpretation based on advanced knowledge and understanding of scientific activities in the related field.
Work with the Principal Investigator and group members to assemble scientific documents such as grant proposals, progress and final reports, and manuscripts.
Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and group members to achieve the labs overall research goals.
Assist with the development and administration of laboratory operating budget requirements designed to meet current and future needs of the lab.
Assist with regular laboratory operation and preventative maintenance of equipment.
Assist with compliance and audit preparation of assigned laboratory area for any
regulatory and safety reviews.
Perform other related administrative and professional duties as needed.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications
HIPAA for Research (will train if hired)
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, biomedical, bioengineering, or related field.
One-year related laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.
Master's degree with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
