Job Summary The Choe laboratory studies entry processes of a wide range of emerging viruses and gene therapy vectors, combining molecular techniques and in vivo experiments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy
Assist in troubleshooting procedures if experimental results are unexpected or the quality of specimens is poor
Maintain records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed
Maintain equipment, lab area, and supplies
Sterilized and cleaned glassware and repaired media and other materials using appropriate procedures
Inventory supplies and alert the supervisor to needed supplies or mixes of standard reagents
Processes order supplies and animals
Attend courses in safety procedures for handling, storage, and disposal of biohazardous, flammable, corrosive, and toxic materials
Carry out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols
Conduct literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques. Attend courses, lectures, and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information
Contribute to the team within and between departments and organizations
Bachelor's degree - a required area of study - Biology
Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles
Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
