The ideal candidates will have research expertise in medicinal chemistry/chemical biology within the general field of neuroscience. The research focus should be in neuroscience, particularly in pain and opioid use disorders, but can also reside in neurodevelopment, neurological diseases, and neurodegeneration. Candidates with computational modeling approaches applied to drug discovery are also of interest. We are seeking candidates who have already established or possesses the potential to establish an innovative, competitive and independent research program. Candidates are expected to contribute to the education and training of students in the Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD) graduate program, the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) professional program, and postdoctoral fellows in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. CBMC is comprised of more than 30 faculty with research strengths in the synthesis and structure-activity characterization of pharmaceutically relevant small molecules, the chemical biology of designed small-molecule ligands and their cognate drug targets, combinatorial biochemistry and proteomics, structural biology, chemo- and bioinformatics, and molecular modeling. Faculty enjoy collaborative opportunities with CBMC's Structural Genomics Consortium (https://pharmacy.unc.edu/research/centers/sgc-unc/) and the Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery (https://cicbdd.web.unc.edu), UNC's five health science schools, and a stimulating regional research environment in the Research Triangle Park.
Education and Experience:
A strong track record of publications that demonstrate innovation and an interest in designing, synthesizing, and/or applying novel molecular agents in the area of neuroscience. Established or possesses the potential to establish a competitive and independent research program. Candidates with expertise in medicinal chemistry and/or computational modeling with a focus on neuroscience.
