Carnegie Mellon University is in an exciting growth phase in the areas of Cellular Biophysics and Quantitative Biology. The Departments of Biological Sciences, Physics, and Computational Biology seek multiple tenure-track faculty candidates who push the boundaries of experimental and computational techniques to join this effort. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: bioimaging, spatial omics, cell mechanics, biological circuit design and computing, cell reprogramming and prediction, emergent behavior, how the phenomenon of life emerges across scales, and decision making of biological systems.

CMU fosters transdisciplinary collaborative approaches to compelling societal challenges and is looking for candidates who would benefit from, and contribute to, an environment that fosters campus-wide, multi-departmental collaborative research projects. We especially seek applicants whose research disciplines may cross traditional boundaries and who can leverage strengths in computer science, engineering, machine learning, robotics and artificial intelligence.

Faculty have access to facilities that include a state-of-the-art animal facility, biological microscopy centers, MRI facility, high-performance computing clusters, and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center. Carnegie Mellon is heavily investing in biological experimental automation suites and candidates are encouraged to describe how their experimental design may benefit from this resource. Appointments across multiple departments, which are a strongly supported part of the culture at Carnegie Mellon, are possible when appropriate. Carnegie Mellon offers highly competitive salaries and start-up packages in an attractive urban environment.

A Ph.D. degree along with postdoctoral research experience is required. The tenure-track appointments will be made at the assistant professor level although candidates at other levels may also be considered.
