The Bioinformatics Team in the Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM) is looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer with experience in large-scale Bioinformatics pipeline development to help us scale up our operations. We are responsible for analyzing large volume of sequencing data. We are currently running a bioinformatics and data science operation with built-in automation to manage tens of thousands of WGS/Exome samples and related data analysis with a consistent pipeline and follow up statistical analysis.
The individual will join a diverse team of bioinformatics scientists, statisticians and programmers to:
Help with maintenance and running of the current bioinformatics pipeline.
Develop and implement bioinformatics tools.
Benchmark and evaluate third-party bioinformatics tools and integrate them into the IGM pipeline.
Design, develop and maintain scheduling systems and components for pipeline automation.
Contribute to the development of big-data framework for large scale analysis on distributed computing platform.
Contribute to the development of new platforms and solutions for large scale integrative analysis of genomic data.
Provide programming and data management support for the genomic sequencing core on exceptionally large studies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor???s degree (in bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field) or equivalent in education and experience; plus 3 years of related experience.
Experience with running, maintaining and developing large-scale Bioinformatics/NGS pipelines.
Experience in designing and implementing software.
Very strong programming skills in Python are required.
Experience in Unix environments.
Strong understanding of software engineering concept and full software development cycle.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
Good communication and inter-personal skills.
Willingness to learn novel tools, technologies and methods in a quickly moving field.
Master???s degree or equivalent in education (in bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field) plus 4 years of related experience OR PhD in a related field with 2 years of experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of C++ is a very strong plus.
Programming skills in other languages is a plus (PHP, PERL).
Experience in cloud environment and cloud-based applications is a plus.
