Lab Technician Position: Molecular Methods and Culturing in Microbial Ecology and Evolution.
The Oliverio Lab (https://oliveriolab.org/) in the Department of Biology at Syracuse University is seeking a motivated, organized, detail-oriented research technician to work on the molecular-level activities of environmental microbes and perform experiments with synthetic microbial communities. Applicants with either a Bachelors or Masters are welcome to apply.
The technician will be responsible for:
Working with graduate and undergraduate students to maintain a lab space.
Purchasing supplies and maintaining chemical and lab safety standards for the lab.
Training students in molecular methods.
Growing microbial cultures.
Setting up ecological experiments with microbial cultures.
Performing DNA/RNA extractions from cultures and environmental samples.
Running established bioinformatics pipelines associated with sequencing data.
Developing figures, writing drafts of abstracts and manuscripts.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience:
Undergraduate degree required, masters degree preferred, in molecular biology, genetics, genomics and bioinformatics, or related field.
Knowledge of sterile technique, experience with microbial culturing and expertise in pipetting.
Interest in training undergraduate students and performing benchwork is required.
