A cover letter is required for consideration for this position and should be attached as the first page of your resume. The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position.
The Fearon laboratory pursues research in the colorectal cancer field, using a range of systems and approaches, including sequence-based and gene expression analyses of human and mouse cancers; cellular, biochemical, and molecular methods to study key signaling and gene regulation pathways and factors in normal and neoplastic cell lines and organoid model systems; and mouse genetic models of tumorigenesis. Our overarching goals are to generate new and definitive understanding of colorectal cancer instigating factors, biology, and progression as well as to develop new advances for improved diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of colorectal cancer.
Research Efforts:
In defined ongoing research projects and others to be developed, under the direction of Dr. Fearon, conduct rigorous and well-controlled laboratory-based research studies, using relevant cell, biochemical, and molecular methodologies to advance in-depth and definitive insights into key pathways, factors, and mechanisms underpinning the aberrant phenotypic traits exhibited by benign and malignant colorectal tumors
Develop and design new in vitro and mouse models necessary for progress in defined research projects
Generate, analyze, and synthesize data and use the data to prepare high-quality and informative figures for research presentations and manuscript and grant submissions
Access relevant publicly available research databases and the published scientific literature to develop new leads and directions and integrate new data generated from ongoing research projects with prior work in the field
Animal Colony and Resource Oversight:
Coordinate management and tracking of transgenic mouse colonies at a project level (e.g., breeding plans, genotyping analysis, colony usage, timelines), in collaboration with other laboratory personnel.
Assist with planning, documentation, and form submissions related to animal resource allocation across projects
Laboratory Operations Support and Oversight:
Assist with supply and reagent ordering for ongoing and upcoming laboratory research projects
Assist in maintaining up-to-date records for all required safety standard operating procedures and protocols and other critical documentation and forms needed for the safe and compliant operations of the laboratory
Publications and Manuscript and Grant Preparation Support:
Assist with manuscript and grant text preparation, including initial drafting and editing of relevant introductory, materials and methods, and results content, figure legends, as well as figures and tables and other display items
Coordinate manuscript submission processes, including journal-specific formatting, submission portals, revisions, and correspondence.
Track manuscript timelines, reviewer comments, and revision deadlines.
Masters or doctoral degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required
5-6 years of relevant experience
Two-four years of experience with diverse molecular and cellular biology methodologies, including recombinant DNA and gene transfer approaches, is required
Two-four years of experience in work with mouse models of disease and/or transgenic mouse model research is required
Two-four years of experience in microscopy-based analyses of tissues and cells with immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent approaches is required
One-two years of experience in research laboratory operations support leadership and animal colony oversight is required
Prior research experience in intestinal and colon biology and cell and mouse models of intestinal diseases, such as colon cancer, is preferred.
