The School of Computing (SoC) and the Institute of Artificial Intelligence (IAI) at the University of Georgia invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position starting August 2026. The position will be a joint hire between the SoC and IAI with SoC being the tenure home.  

We are seeking candidates with backgrounds or interest in all aspects of Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on health-oriented, human-centered, or gaming AI, and its ethical considerations.?? Applicants for an Assistant Professor should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field with a strong record of high-quality publications. Candidates for Associate Professor position should also have an established record of external research funding and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates for Associate rank with tenure must have qualifications and academic credentials that are commensurate with promotion and tenure guidelines at the University of Georgia and must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire. The School of Computing (SoC) is a growing and congenial school of 46 faculty within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering. The SoC has nearly 1800 undergraduate students, and 220 graduate students, and offers the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, B.S. and MS degrees in Data Science, and an M.S. degree in Cybersecurity and Privacy. The school also contributes to a number of other programs on campus, like M.S and Ph.D degrees in Artificial Intelligence (AI), B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), and A.B. in Cognitive Science. The teaching load allows for substantial concentration on research. In addition to the areas in which we are recruiting, our faculty cover a broad range of research interests, including Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence (broadly defined to also include computer vision and robotics), Bioinformatics, Human Computer Interaction, Computer Security and Privacy, Computational Science, and Computer Systems (including parallel, distributed, embedded, real-time, and high-performance computing). The Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IAI) is a separate, interdisciplinary research and instructional unit managing the A.B. in Cognitive Science and two graduate Artificial Intelligence degree programs housing a combined cohort of more than 300 students. The M.S. in AI is one of the oldest such programs in the country. The Ph.D. in AI was approved in 2022. The interdisciplinary nature of AI and Cognitive Science is reflected in the mission and composition of the Institute, with more than ninety Institute Faculty Fellows who come from a wide variety of departments and colleges across the UGA campus, thereby offering an exceptional environment to collaborate.
