University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Application
Details
Posted: 23-Jul-25
Location: Knoxville, TN
Internal Number: 170510
The Department of Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB) at the University ofTennessee Knoxville is soliciting applications for a tenure‐track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Genome Integrity.
Successful candidates will be expected to develop an innovative, nationally recognized, and externally funded research program that addresses problems at the cutting edge of the biology of genomes and chromosomes. We areparticularly interested in applicants that build on emerging areas in BCMB (https://bcmb.utk.edu), including nuclear organization, epigenetics, and gene regulation. BCMB is a diverse department with existing areas of strength in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, cell biology, neurobiology, cancer biology, and plant science.
BCMB is a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and collegial department. The candidate will have laboratory space in the modern Ken and Blaire Mossman building, which houses high-level research and instructional space. There are core facilities and shared instrumentation for next-generation sequencing, associated high-performance computation, flow cytometry, advanced microscopy, a vivarium, and a bioanalytical resource facility.
The successful candidate has opportunities to participate in communities of scholars in membrane biology, inflammation, and an NIH-T32 training grant in Integrated Membrane Biology. Interactions with the nearby Oak Ridge National Lab are fostered by the UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute, in particular, a convergent research initiative in targeted radiotherapeutics. BCMB faculty also collaborate with colleagues at the UT Ag-Vet campus, the UT Medical Center, and the National Institute for Modeling Biological Systems.
The University is beginning a next-level initiative aimed both at substantially elevating the University's national reputation for impactful research, scholarship, and creative activity and at assembling a rost of faculty committed to delivering one of the nation's best educational experiences for undergraduate and graduate students.
Required:
Applicants must have a doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) and postdoctoral experience in an appropriate discipline with evidence of high-quality research. Candidates must also show an interest in developing a teaching program within the departmental curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Applicants are to upload one continuous PDF file at http://apply.interfolio.com/170510. The file should include (i) a cover letter, (ii) a curriculum vitae with a complete list of publications, (iii) a 2-3 page statement of current and future research interests, and (iv) a 1-page statement of teaching experience and interests. Applicants must also upload one document that lists the names and contact information of three references. The review of applications will begin October 1, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2026.
Please direct any inquiries regarding the posting to Dr. Albrecht von Arnim, committee chair, at vonarnim@utk.edu.
