Michigan State University Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences (SCS) invites applications for a talented postdoctoral researcher for to assist with research developing longitudinal studies evaluating the host-microbiome in systemic diseases of dogs and cats.
The position is 100% research, and all conditions studied will be clinically based, with no experimental models of disease. This is a newly established lab, and the scope and direction of the position will be entirely dependent on the successful applicant. We are looking for someone enthusiastic and driven to make a difference in the field of companion animal microbiome research.
While in this role, you will:
Support the research mission of the laboratory evaluating the host-microbiome in systemic diseases of dogs and cats. Specifically, the current projects evaluating impact of microbiome on kidney function of cats and the association between the developing microbiome and behavioural conditions in dogs.
Assist the laboratory lead, residents, and students in design and implementation of microbiome-based studies.
Develop your own personal research portfolio and project.
We are seeking an individual with a collaborative and innovative mindset.
The appointment is for 12 months with the possibility of renewal based on funding.

Required Degree
Doctorate -PhD or equivalent
Minimum Requirements
PhD or equivalent degree
Excellent communication skills
Bench top experience with DNA/RNA extraction, quality control and qPCR
Previous experience in research evaluating host-microbiome interactions and/or bioinformatics is essential along with strong communication and inter-personal skills.
Desired Qualifications
DVM/VMD or MD
