Position overview Position title: Arribere Lab: Junior Specialist Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The posted UCSC Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See the scale titled, Represented Specialist Series Fiscal Year. A reasonable estimate for this position is $53,100 - $56,600.
Percent time: Full-time (100%)

Position Description
Associate Professor Joshua Arribere in the Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a research specialist. The selected candidate will contribute to a research program in quality control of gene expression, focusing on RNA and protein metabolism and should have a command of genetics, basic biochemistry, and molecular biology. Duties will include generation of C. elegans strains (via mutagenesis, CRISPR/Cas9, crossing), nucleic acid extraction and analysis (e.g., deep sequencing library preparation), ribosomal preparation and analysis (e.g., ribosome footprinting), and protein analysis (immunoblotting, protein fluorescence).
The positions duties will also include general lab management responsibilities such as ordering supplies, implementing laboratory safety program requirements, and overseeing undergraduate students. The position will require the research specialist to consistently employ excellent communication skills, effectively plan and execute research projects, and successfully work both independently and collaboratively.
Applicants with any of the following areas of expertise are strongly encouraged to apply: experience with gene expression; experience with the nematode C. elegans or other model organisms.

Basic qualifications (required at the time the application is submitted)
B.A. or B.S. degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, computational biology, or related field. It is expected that the degree requirement will be completed by June 30, 2025.
Experience with molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to the following: PCR, recombinant DNA technology, extraction and analysis of nucleic acid and ribonucleoprotein complexes, and immunoblotting.
