Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
We are looking for an outstanding candidate to work on the analysis and integration of genomic and epigenetic data generated by the Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes (FAANG) projects to identify cis-regulatory regions and evaluate their potential impact of phenotypes using genomic prediction and comparative sequence analyses.The successful candidate will lead projects and participate as part of a team of geneticists and bioinformaticians within the Animal Breeding and Genetics group at ISU. The duties of the job are:
Development and testing of pipelines for the analysis of high-throughput genomics and epigenetics data.
Conduct genomic selection and genome-wide association (GWA) analyses to integrate functional genomics and GWAS data.
Collaborate with other bioinformatics to help test and develop web-based bioinformatics tools.
Develop online and in-person training materials, including workshops to educate community members on how to use bioinformatics tools and resources developed in this project.
Lead communications (meetings) with collaborators to ensure research progress.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in bioinformatics or a related field
At least 2 years of experience with Next Generation Sequencing data analysis and/or experience in genomic selection
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in epigenetic and transcriptomic data analysis
Experience in UNIX and R programming and high-performance computing
Demonstrated skills in computer programming with at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, Julia, or similar)
Experience in developing web applications on a server
Experience with MySQL database software
Experience with comparative genomic data analysis/genomic breeding value estimation
Demonstrated experience utilizing computer programming to analyze biological data
