The Department of Biological Sciences in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) seeks to recruit a full-time equivalent (9-month appointment) non-tenure system faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction to teach undergraduate biology courses, including introductory biology labs and to devote 50% effort towards preparation and management of undergraduate teaching labs across Biological Sciences. The Department of Biological Sciences is a vibrant community of researchers and educators that prioritizes the effective training of students. An ideal candidate is an experienced and dedicated educator focused on the success of all students and trainees in classrooms and laboratories. Courses are often taught in multiple sections by a collaborative group of faculty and teaching assistants, so excellent team-work and communication skills are essential. The candidate will lead laboratory instructors in preparing, testing and standardizing materials and protocols needed for lab-based courses, and will aid in building curriculum and course content geared towards an active learning environment. We are especially interested in candidates who have flexibility to teach evening and/or weekend sections, and/or are interested in developing course-based research experiences for our undergraduate students.
The appointment commences July 1, 2025 in preparation for the fall 2025 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A master's degree in a relevant discipline in the biological sciences is required prior to employment and experience of preparing laboratory reagents and media and of operating and maintaining general laboratory equipment (e.g. microscopes, pipettors, spectrophotometers, PCR machines, etc.) Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences. The position requires
Preferred Education and Experience: A PhD in a relevant discipline in the biological sciences is preferred along with experience as a teaching assistant or instructor in college-level laboratory and/or lecture classes.
