The University of New Mexico’s Department of Pathology seeks three highly motivated General Surgical Pathologists at all academic ranks (Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor) on the Clinician Educator track. We are hiring in all subspecialties to accommodate a University-wide workforce expansion. These subspecialties include Breast Pathology, Cytology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Genitourinary Pathology, GYN Pathology, Head/Neck Pathology, Bone/Soft Tissue Pathology, and Lung/Thoracic Pathology. Preference will be given to applicants willing to cover cytopathology, though this is negotiable for highly qualified applicants.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide general surgical pathology and cytology services in a growing academic tertiary care center with a regional outside consult service
Participate in diagnostic and teaching activities (residents, fellows, and medical students)
May participate in translational research activities if desired (not a requirement for promotion)
Engage with clinical services for the NCI-designated UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center and collaborate with oncologists in multidisciplinary tumor boards
Travel occasionally to the UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center, located 29 miles from UNMH for frozen section coverage with PA support (travel costs reimbursed, remote digital option coming soon)
This position is located at the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH), New Mexico's only Academic Medical Center and Level-1 Trauma Center. The Surgical Pathology Division is actively involved in cutting-edge research through collaborations with the Department of Pathology, the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Human Tissue Repository, the TriCore Research Institute, and the NIH-funded Clinical Translational Science Center. In addition, research opportunities in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are available through a partnership with Indica Labs (HALO AI) located in Corrales, NM.

Minimum Requirements:
MD or equivalent
Board certification/eligibility in Anatomic Pathology
Desirable Qualifications:
Strong general surgical pathology skills
Interest and/or experience in Head and Neck Pathology and/or Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology is desired but all subspecialties will be considered
Passion for training residents and fellows in surgical pathology
Enthusiasm for teaching within the graduate medical curriculum
A desire to engage in translational research related to surgical pathology
