FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. The Natural Sciences Department of LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York invites applications for part-time faculty members to teach a one-semester Genomics & Bioinformatics (SCB207). SCB 207 is a computer-based interdisciplinary course that introduces the principles of genomics and bioinformatics. Topics include genomics science, computer-based data analysis, practical computer concepts for bioinformatics, and genome mining projects. This class meets in person every Thursday from 1:00 - 4:25 PM during the Spring I semester (3/6/25 to 6/16/25).
The successful candidate will be required to perform teaching and guidance duties in the areas of expertise. This includes teaching, creating, administering, and grading assessments (quizzes, exams, lab reports), holding office hours, and providing student guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS
For Adjunct Assistant Professor, Adjunct Associate Professor and Adjunct full Professor:
Ph.D. or Master?s degree in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The ability to teach successfully, demonstrate scholarship or achievement, and cooperate with others for the institution's good.
Proficiency and active professional experience in the bioinformatic field or related field, as well as in mining and analyzing genome data.
Proficiency in basic computing and data analysis concepts using R and Python programming languages is preferred.
Teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable.
COMPENSATION
For Adjunct Assistant Professor: $100/hour
For Adjunct Associate Professor: $108.33/hour
For Adjunct Full Professor: $112.50/hour
