The Phatnani Lab seeks an independent but team-oriented Research Associate Scientist with broad experience in molecular biology, next generation sequencing, and neuronal cultures. In this role, the Research Associate Scientist will develop and incorporate cutting-edge molecular and biochemical protocols. She/he will learn and implement bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data. The nature of the position ensures that the Research Associate Scientist will work closely with leaders in neurobiology, molecular biology, engineering and computational biology.
Responsibilities may include:
?Develop new methods for CRISPR screens and neuronal cultures;
?Learn and implement new spatial genomics protocols;
?Coordinate efforts across multiple organizations, CUIMC and New York Genome Center;
?Actively participate in the preparation of grants, manuscripts for publication and present at scientific conferences;
?Assist in peer- and student-mentorship; and,
?Share expertise and provide training and guidance to group members as needed.
Mentoring Plan
The Research Associate Scientist will be expected to meet regularly with Dr. Phatnani at NYGC and Columbia University. This individual will also interact regularly with faculty at both institutions. The incumbent will participate in regular group meetings at both NYGC and Columbia, and will participate in meetings of NYC-wide working groups
Minimum Degree requirement
?A Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical or bioengineering, neurobiology or related discipline required; minimum of 3 years? experience post PhD is required;
?In-depth understanding of nucleic acid and protein biochemistry required;
?Prior experience with CRISPR and neuronal cultures is required;
?Prior experience with tissue handling, experimental biochemistry and molecular biology, imaging, and computational analysis are preferred, but exceptionally creative and driven scientists with an interest will be seriously considered;
?Strong oral and written communication, data documentation, and presentation skills required;
?Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time required; and
?Leadership, excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills required.
