Position: Professional Specialist ***REVISED***

Description: This role will provide an opportunity for a Professional Specialist to join a laboratory whose focus of work is the genetic and epigenetic underpinnings of complex social and behavioral phenotypes. This position requires expertise, flexibility, and independence usually found in an individual with a Ph.D. (or equivalent) and completion of a successful post-doctoral position, and several years of further experience in research independence at the university level. The successful candidate will collaborate with the PI to develop novel approaches to epigenetic and genome-based discovery as it is related to gene-environment interactions around complex phenotypes. After agreeing on research goals and direction, the individual will work independently to develop and put in place analytic approaches to reach these goals. The individual will collaborate in writing grant applications and manuscripts, applications to ensure research compliance (IRB, IACUC, and IBC), and based on the results of experiments, they may devote some effort to publishing independently. Supervision of the laboratory work of undergraduate and graduate students is an important component. Specific duties will include: *Developing new and innovative approaches to the interpretation and analysis of genotyping, global methylation profiling using a variety of technologies, model systems, and biochemical and cellular and assays related to telomere hemostasis and epigenetic moderation of phenotype. *Collaborating with the PI to develop goals for research projects and will have responsibility for experimental aspects of projects and consult with the PI about problems in the progress of those projects and convey results. *Assuring that laboratory equipment is appropriately maintained, coordinate ordering for the laboratory, *Supervising technicians(s), organizing, and preparing samples for high throughput processing, and maintaining the logs of received samples from field research. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: *Ph.D. plus at least 8 years of graduated experience in biochemistry and molecular biology with expertise in eukaryotic genetics/genomics, cell biology, genotyping, and CNV detection in humans. *A person with this level of accomplishment and skill would be expected to have an interest in peer-reviewed scientific literature. *This individual will have a deep technical and theoretical understanding of a variety of analytic programs for genetic analysis and identification of differentially expressed and methylated genes. *The candidate must be able to work independently and regularly participate in the selection of procedures and techniques to be used on new problems. The position is a one-year term with the possibility of renewal. This position is subject to the University's background check policy and reference checks.
