Rutgers Cancer Institute is growing! We invite applications for faculty positions in cancer research. New faculty are expected to establish or support an innovative, independent, and collaborative research program addressing important, fundamental questions in the broad areas of cancer biology. Candidates with a demonstrated ability to secure peer reviewed funding are preferred. We are also seeking applications from candidates with interests in precision medicine and phase 1 development.
Rutgers Cancer Institute is an NCI-designated, comprehensive and consortium cancer center that includes faculty members from across Rutgers University (including Rutgers Robert Wood Medical School, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences) and Princeton University. We are a leader in basic, clinical, prevention, and public health science, offering world-class quality cancer care providing the most advanced medicines and treatment options for patients in our health system network across the state. Highlighted Opportunities:
Tumor Immunology- Open rank, tenure track faculty position with a research focus in tumor immunology including cancer immunotherapy, immunometabolism, CAR-T therapy, checkpoint blockade, T cell biology, tumor antigens, tumor immune evasion, and viral and non-viral gene transfer and gene editing. The successful candidate will join a team of researchers and clinicians of the newly established Cancer Immunology and Metabolism Center of Excellence, a $30 million initiative co-directed by Drs. Christian Hinrichs and Eileen White.
Genomic Instability and Cancer Genetics- Open rank, tenure track faculty position with a basic, translational, or preclinical research focus in cancer genetics and genomics, including therapeutic vulnerabilities of dysregulated DNA repair and altered cancer genomes, strategies and mechanisms of radiation therapy at cellular and molecular levels, the co-adaption between tumor environment and the evolving cancer cells, and genetics of cancer predisposition syndromes.
Cancer Pharmacology- Open rank, tenure track faculty position with a research focus in cancer pharmacology, including structure-guided drug discovery and development, the biology of key molecular targets of cancer, and mechanisms of action and resistance of cancer therapies. We are especially interested in individuals with strong background in translation of basic science to patient care or drug discovery applying DNA-encoded library screening, PROTAC and other innovative small molecule drug discovery technologies, or therapeutic antibody engineering and development.
Pediatric Cancer- Open rank, tenure track faculty position with research related to pediatric cancer or blood disorder, with interests in stem cell biology and transplantation; cellular therapies; immunotherapeutics; cancer predisposition syndromes; or gene therapies. Successful recruits will be aligned with one of the basic research programs of Tumor Immunology, Genomic Instability and Cancer Genetics, or Cancer Pharmacology.
Qualified candidates must have a PhD and/or MD, outstanding academic credentials, and a history or strong potential for grant funding. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Rutgers Cancer Institute is a cornerstone of New Jersey’s premier academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS). Construction is currently underway for a new $750 million state-of-the-art Cancer Center adjacent to the current Rutgers Cancer Institute facility and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The 510,000 square foot Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center wil...l be the state’s first free-standing cancer hospital. It will feature outpatient and inpatient clinical space—including 84 infusion bays, 74 exam rooms, and 96 inpatient beds. This is in addition to state-of-the-art laboratories where critical scientific investigation will be amplified, enabling physician-scientists to translate findings directly to patients. The Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center will also have the capacity to offer wellness and education resources all in one location.
