We are seeking a Research Technologist who will assist the Center for Tuberculosis Research in studies evaluating new drugs and drug combinations with in vitro and mouse models of mycobacterial lung infection. Under direct supervision, the individual will be assigned projects for stepwise assessment of microbiologic efficacy, drug pharmacokinetics and drug resistance.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinate and actively participate in conduct of in vitro and animal experiments to evaluate new drug candidates.
Collect, organize and analyze experimental data.
Assist in the cultivation of pathogenic bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacteria.
Responsibly handle bio-hazardous material under Biosafety Level 2 and Biosafety Level 3 conditions.
Infect animals through the aerosol route using designated equipment.
Administer antibiotics or other anti-infectives to mice using injection or oral gavage routes.
Perform necropsies on mice to collect infected organs (primarily lungs) for culture and/or genetic analyses.
Perform drug susceptibility testing and mutational analysis on bacterial isolates.
Interact with faculty, lab and administrative staff, students, postdoctoral fellows, and outside vendors.
Meet weekly with the PI and selected staff to review recent data, troubleshoot current experiments, review new experimental protocols and prioritize new experiments.
Maintain records of attendance at regulatory/training sessions (e.g., biohazard, radiation safety, HIPPA, etc.).
Monitor inventory levels and proper storage of materials and supplies.
Maintain lab supplies, purchases, and forward paperwork to admin staff.
Demonstrate organization, curiosity, problem solving, resourcefulness, and flexibility.
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledgeable in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience.
Experience in bioinformatics and website development and maintenance.
