Position Summary:
The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.
Western Carolina University is seeking applications for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position in Molecular Biology or Immunology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2025.
WCU is a regional comprehensive university of the University of North Carolina System located in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina about an hour west of Asheville, NC.
Primary teaching responsibilities will be to teach introductory, upper-level, and graduate courses in Cell and Molecular Biology and to develop courses in the candidates specialty. An active research program involving undergraduates and Masters students is essential.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position: Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in an appropriate field, a record of scholarly productivity, and the expectation of continued scholarship. Applicants should also have postdoctoral experience or its equivalent, teaching experience at the undergraduate level, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants with the ability to teach introductory Cell and Molecular Biology, and to develop courses in Immunology, Bacteriology, Virology, or Cancer Biology are especially encouraged to apply. The ability to develop a research program using molecular tools in model organisms, tissue culture, or bioinformatics is also preferred. WCU has limited long-term vertebrate holding facilities.
