Description:
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology, College of Medicine, at the University of Illinois Chicago is soliciting applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience. We are seeking innovative and collaborative individuals pursuing fundamental and/or translational aspects of microbial pathogenesis, host responses to infection, and immunology. We especially seek applicants with research programs that use state-of-the-art approaches involving animal models, cell biology, human immunology, imaging, molecular genetics, or systems biology. We offer an intellectually exciting, collegial and supportive environment with robust graduate, physician scientist, and post-doctoral training programs, as well as extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaboration. Resources include outstanding core facilities for DNA/RNA sequencing and genomics, imaging, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, structural analyses and automated drug screening. Facilities supporting BSL-3 pathogen research are operational within the department and college. Competitive salary and start-up packages commensurate with qualifications and experience are available.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills and be expected to articulate plans for establishing and maintaining an extramurally funded research program incorporating collaborations with UIC colleagues. In addition to running their research program, hired faculty will participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students, will engage in service to the department and institution, and demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

Preferred Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or MD/Ph.D. degree in Microbiology, Immunology, or related field with a strong publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals, and potential for extramural funding at the Assistant Professor rank (K or R-type career transition awards, or equivalent) or evidence of sustained extramural funding at advanced ranks.
