Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) invites applications for the position of Research Technician-I/II in the laboratory of Dr. Semir Beyaz.
The Beyaz lab is interested in the development of a comprehensive understanding of how nutrients and metabolism influence cellular networks that govern tissue regeneration, cancer and immunity. We dissect the precise mechanisms of how reciprocal interactions between tissue stem cells, immune cells and the microbiome affect tissue fitness or cancer outcomes. We utilize state-of-the-art experimental and computational approaches to integrate genetic, epigenetic, metabolism and microbiome data to identify causal targets that can be therapeutically exploited. To assess therapeutic potential of our discoveries, we have developed a comprehensive and inclusive biobank with tissue specimens, autologous patient-derived organoids and immune cell co-culture systems from patients across diverse ancestries.
Position Responsibilities
We are looking for a highly motivated Research Technician-II to join a collaborative team of scientists for developing novel approaches to mitigate toxicity and enhance efficacy of cancer therapeutics. This exciting project is in collaboration with a leading US-based venture capital firm. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop new skills in basic science and learn about the process of translating discoveries from bench to bedside.
Position Requirements
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related discipline and at least two years of research experience is required.
Skills and experience: The ideal candidate should have significant experience in molecular biology, mammalian cell culture and mouse models of cancer. Experience in metabolism, epigenetics and cancer therapeutics will be an advantage. The responsibilities include mouse handling and colony management, administration of therapeutic agents to mice, surgical procedures, animal imaging, assessing drug efficacy in 2D cultured cells or 3D organoids-derived from mice or patients, and performing mechanistic experiments. Previous mouse handling experience is a must. Candidates without previous animal experience will not be considered. In addition, the candidate should have strong organizational skills and experience in using and maintaining data spreadsheets. We require a minimum of 2 years commitment to the position.

Since 1890, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has been a global leader in research and education. The international scientific community at CSHL provides a unique and stimulating atmosphere for doctoral research?an environment where students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty work side-by-side. The Watson School of Biological Sciences (WSBS) was founded on the belief that with well thought-out mechanisms, enthusiastic involvement of faculty, and highly motivated students, an innovative curriculum could be provided that would allow students to earn a doctoral degree in a shorter time than in traditional programs without compromising the quality of their training. The curriculum is designed to train students to become scholars and independent thinkers.
