Job Summary:
The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering (CME) in the Pigman College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a two-year Research Scientist position in CME beginning as early as. This position is renewable depending on the performance and funding situation. The individual is expected to conduct research funded by state, federal, and private agencies; publish research findings in peer-reviewed publications; develop intellectual property; guide and oversee the work of graduate students and post-doctorates; and participate in activities that serve the profession. The primary focus of the research will be topics important to the protein language models for biomedical research, although working on other topics of interest will be encouraged.
Potential Start Date: January 01, 2025 Duration: initial 24-month grant funded and potentially renewable.
Skills /Knowledge/Abilities:
Solid computer algorithm knowledge. Working experience in developing modern machine learning / deep learning methods and statistics inferences algorithms and tools for proteins. Excellence in Python, Perl, R, JAVA, Linux scripting language, node.js and related web development in Unix/Linux environment. In-depth capabilities in understanding, implementing and developing bioinformatics data analytics tools, computational methods and algorithms, and databases. In-depth knowledge in deep learning algorithms. Experience in High Performance Computers, Cloud storage and GPU programming. Familiarity with use of Amazon web services (AWS) resources. In-depth experience of deep learning problem solving, tools design and development process. Proactive team player with excellent communication and presentation skills.

Strong publication record, especially published research articles as the first author of the machine learning protein paper in prestigious journals. Experience in management and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.
