This position is contingent upon grant funding.

This position will work closely with other members of the Biostatistics Core in the Division of Sleep Medicine on the design and implementation of statistical and bioinformatics aspects of clinical research being conducted by faculty, staff and students in the Division. Responsibilities include:

• Support all aspects of data management, data analysis, and results dissemination associated with a recently funded Program Project grant application awarded through National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
• Development/drafting of new statistical analysis plans (SAPs) aligned with the needs of a given project and implementation of existing SAPs using commercial statistical software such as SAS, STATA and R.
• Design, development, maintenance and documentation of programs utilized to extract, clean, maintain, integrate, and analyze data from ongoing prospective research studies and large-scale electronic health records (EHRs).
• Collaborate on analysis of large and developing genetic (e.g., genome-wide association study) and other omics datasets, including from the NHLBI TOPMed Program.
• Participate in creation of results tables and listings, dissemination of results with study investigators, and writing up of results and methods for manuscript publications and presentations at scientific meetings.
• Support the development of future grant applications, including study design, sample size estimation, and writing of analysis plan and other relevant text.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform required programming tasks for the implementation of established statistical analysis plans, as well as in support of the design of future projects and grant applications (30%)
• Contribute to the development of programs/applications for processing and maintaining (large scale) biomedical datasets, including detailed documentation (15%)
• Provide support in the analysis of genetic and other omics data, including conduct of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and appropriate follow-up analyses (15%)
• Provide support in the write-up and presentation of analysis results and methodologies for peer-reviewed manuscripts, presentations, and grant proposals (10%)
• Meet with Investigators and Team Members to collaborate on aspects of study design and applications to biomedical big data (10%)
• Consult with other members of the Biostatistics Core on analysis plans and statistical methods for various projects (10%)
• Regularly review progress on assigned projects with Co-Director of Biostatistics Core (5%)
• Perform additional duties, as assigned (5%)

Qualifications

• Master of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
• M.S. Degree in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics or equivalent quantitative field preferred
• Proficiency in a statistical programming language, preferably SAS, STATA and/or R, required
• Competency in programming languages for appropriate for large-scale data (e.g., SQL, R and/or Python) required
• Prior experience in the implementation of statistical methodologies in support of clinical research strongly preferred
• Prior experience with and knowledge of the subject domain (e.g., sleep and circadian research) strongly preferred
• Experience with machine learning methods and/or information visualization a plus
• Experience with analysis of genome-wide genetic, epigenetic, or other omics datasets a plus
• Experience with other programming languages (HTML5, PHP, Java, C, C++, PLINK, SUGEN, and/or Perl) a plus
• Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgement
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with others
• Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities to meet changing deadlines, as necessary
