Job Summary: | The Communicable Disease Division (CDD) Support department is seeking a professional to join the team as a Lab Assistant (Medical Program Assistant). This position's primary job function will be data entry of laboratory test orders, received electronically or by requisition, in Epic Systems Beaker. The position will also facilitate clinical specimen transport, deliver customer service, and perform clerical tasks like sorting, scanning, and filing records both physically and electronically. Skill and experience following policies/procedures, and using Microsoft Excel is required. Previous experience with Epic Systems software is preferred. Other tasks and projects as assigned. A typing/keyboard entry test will be required at interview. This position is on-site at 2601 Agriculture Drive, Madison, WI 53718.

Within WSLH, the Communicable Disease Division (CDD) performs many core functions of a public health laboratory:

CDD performs over 275 clinical diagnostic and surveillance tests in support of WDHS, Wisconsin clinical laboratories, other state and regional public health laboratories and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). WSLH is a national or regional reference center, through work performed in CDD, for advanced molecular diagnostics as well as a number of pathogens of public health concern, such as Influenza, antimicrobial resistant organisms, vaccine-preventable diseases, and gastrointestinal pathogens (bacterial, parasitic and viral). CDD performs a wide breadth of moderate and high complexity testing and analyses in Bacteriology, Virology, Serology, Mycobacteriology, Parasitology, Bioinformatics and pre-and post-analytic support units (Customer Service, Specimen Receiving, Data/ Informatics and Clinical Orders). Responsibilities: | Performs administrative duties to support providers, staff, services, and unit programs. May serve as the primary contact or customer service representative and subject matter expert. Tracks, prioritizes, organizes, and completes multiple ongoing clinical, research or academic projects. Requires Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) knowledge or training. - 20% Performs administrative tasks including telephone customer service, word processing, transcribing, filing, and calendaring
- 80% Assists in coordinating the complex daily activities of providers or program(s) by entering information into databases, maintaining files and materials, and preparing reports
