This advertisement is for an 11-month, tenure-track faculty position in the Cancer Prevention in the Pacific (CPP) within the larger Population Sciences in the Pacific (PSP) Program at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (UHCC; an NCI Designated Cancer Center). The position will be open until filled. Applicants for the position must show strong promise of establishing an active research program in the area of cancer prevention and control, as demonstrated by a strong track-record of peer-reviewed publications and experience writing and submitting competitive research proposals to National Institutes of Health (NIH). This position is expected to begin approximately Spring 2025.
The mission of the CPP program is to reduce cancer disparities in Hawaii and the Pacific through behavioral and community-based research. Areas of research currently represented within the CPP include tobacco and e-cigarette prevention, areca (betel) nut use prevention and cessation, cancer survivorship, skin and colorectal cancer screening, cancer care delivery research, and skin cancer prevention. The successful candidate will increase the depth of current research in the program or expand the program’s range of research. Research areas in which the program seeks to expand include, but are not limited to, diet and physical activity interventions, health promotion interventions for cancer survivors, and applications of mHealth, community-based participatory research, and dissemination and implementation science to cancer prevention and control. Experience conducting cancer disparities research and cancer-related research among Asian/Pacific Islander populations would be considered a major strength. In addition, demonstrated ability of being able to conduct research as part of a multidisciplinary team would be considered a strength.
The position will be funded by appropriated funds for the initial 2-year appointment; subsequent partial external funding is expected. Continuation of appointment is contingent upon satisfactory performance. UHCC provides an attractive recruitment package including space in the beautiful Cancer Center building in Honolulu, start-up funds and a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Core facilities available to Center investigators include Biostatistics, Genomics and Bioinformatics, Analytical Biochemistry, Nutrition Support, Metabolomics, Pathology, and Diversity Research and Recruitment. UHCC has active research training programs involving mentorship of graduate students, postdocs, and early-stage investigators.
