The Brown University School of Public Health invites applications for an open-rank tenured faculty position with a focus on global health security. Preference will be given to senior-level candidates with tenure or the ability to receive tenure, but applications from candidates with well recognized practice- or policy-based accomplishments may also be considered. This interdisciplinary position will have a primary appointment in one of the four departments in the School (Behavioral and Social Sciences, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or Health Services, Policy, and Practice) and will join a growing and vibrant faculty. The start date is flexible but anticipated to be July 2025.
We are seeking applications from candidates with research, teaching and practice interests in global health security who are poised to collaborate with faculty working in the following areas: infectious diseases and pandemic preparedness; health care policy and health economics; global health; health equity; climate change and environmental health; vaccine epidemiology and pharmacoepidemiology; aging and other vulnerable populations; and international affairs. We also strongly encourage applications from individuals with strong methodological expertise in health data science, economics, genomics, infectious disease modeling, or approaches that utilize “big data.” The successful candidate will be expected to sustain and grow an existing externally funded research program, as well as to teach and mentor students in their area of study. Applicants at the associate professor level will also be expected to demonstrate a track record of external leadership within biosecurity and/or global health security or the larger public health field.
The Brown School of Public Health is home to a community of academic researchers as well as doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate training programs. The School and the broader University offer opportunities for substantial collaboration with world class researchers in the constituent disciplines of epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, and behavioral sciences, as well as in a broad range of other domain areas in implementation science, global health, healthcare and policy research, medicine, brain sciences, computational biology, computer science, economics, substance use, and aging sciences. The School of Public Health is home to 14 thriving research centers and ranks among the top schools of public health for NIH funding.
Applicants must possess a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in epidemiology, health policy, biological sciences, international affairs, health economics, or other field related to global health security. Candidates should have evidence of strong methodologic training in their discipline. Candidates must be able to demonstrate: research excellence and productivity, including the ability to maintain a successful program of extramural funding; evidence of the ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The departmental appointment within the School of Public Health will depend on the background and training of the candidate. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
Applicants should submit their Curriculum Vitae, cover letter, teaching statement, and research impact statement through Interfolio at the following link: https://apply.interfolio.com/152752. Please indicate in your letter of application the search number (PH-335) and whether you are applying for Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2024 with a priority deadline of September 15, 2024. Applications received after that date will be considered until the position is filled. Potential applicants are invited to contact Search Committee Chair, Jennifer Nuzzo, PhD (Jennifer_Nuzzo@brown.edu) for further information about the position or Brittany Leclerc (Brittany_Leclerc@brown.edu) for application details.
