Position Summary
Dr. Shah Ali???s laboratory at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Technician B to support ongoing research projects in the lab, which investigates mechanisms of cardiomyocyte maturation and heart regeneration. The projects will utilize cultured mammalian cells, mouse models, and lentivirus and adeno-associated viruses and a combination of biochemistry, molecular biology, and high-throughput bioinformatics approaches to answer questions related to mammalian cardiac regeneration. Overall, the Technician B will have multi-faceted responsibilities in a collaborative space that will help generate fundamental biological insights about cardiac maturation and regeneration.
Responsibilities
Work closely with the principal investigator and other colleagues in the lab in designing, carrying out, and coordinating research.
Works under general supervision.
Set up and conduct experiments or activities according to established protocols and record data.
Performing assays and preparing solutions according to detailed instructions.
Setting up equipment for experiments, calibrations, or radiation surveys.
Carrying out fully planned experiments.
Assisting in collection of samples and keeping records of the results of experiments.
Ordering and maintaining lab or clinical supplies.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent in training and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in cardiac research.
Other Requirements
The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to final offer of employment being made.
Participation in the Medical Surveillance Program
Position involves working with animals
Experience with rodent handling and breeding.
Familiar with standard molecular biology techniques, such as cloning, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, RT/PCR/qPCR, electrophoresis, immunoblotting, etc.
Great organizational and time management skills.
